12 Podcasts That Will Improve Your Life

12 podcast that will improve your life.

I think I may have the longest commute in the history of commutes. It can range anywhere from 3 – 4 hours a day, driving! I cross state lines and have to file 2 state tax returns, I can fly to Boston from NY quicker than it can take me to get home from work.

Ok, you get the point.

It’s long but don’t cry for me Argentina, I have come to realize my commute has been one of my biggest blessings in disguise. I mean, I spend a lot of money and time getting to and from work and it’s definitely not the “Mustachian” way but I’ve come to appreciate it.

My long commute has helped me discover 12 podcasts that have literally changed my life. I’m not exaggerating, these podcasts have really improved my quality of life; from teaching me how to reach my goals, be a better parent, build wealth, stay motivated on my journey to financial freedom & learning how to run my business more efficiently. These podcasts actually make my commute bearable and dare I say, somewhat enjoyable, gasp!. When I wake up in the morning, I am actually looking forward to getting into the car.

So without further ado, here are the 12 podcasts that have changed my life for the better and maybe they can improve your life too:

Improve Your Finances:

Radical Personal Finance   – The Radical Personal Finance podcast was one of the first podcasts I’d ever started listening to. I love that Joshua, the host, has such a diverse range of topics. Episodes touch on all parts of the Financial Independence journey.  Topics range anywhere from education and healthcare to interviews of those who have achieved or are on their way to Financial Independence. Joshua does a good job of asking guests practical questions and also has no problem expressing his opinion, like it or not. He has a real non-bs approach about taking control of your finances, which I appreciate.

Mad Fientist  – The Mad Fientist (Brandon) “dissects the brains of some of the most well-respected fientists in the field to discover their techniques and strategies for achieving financial independence”. Brandon interviews some of the most popular folks in the Financial Independence community and gets them to divulge their “insider” secrets and tips. I also love how down to earth and laid back Brandon is in his interviews.

His & Her Money – Married couple, Talaat & Tai “manage money, marriage and everything in between” on their podcast. I just love that Talaat & Tai are a real married couple who openly talk about their struggles with merging finances. They interview guests who are still in the thick of their financial journeys and provide some on the ground insight and strategies of how to pay off debt and save money. They openly talk about how they have evolved as a couple who better manage their finances, something many people in relationships can relate to.

Afford Anything – Paula from Afford Anything believes that you can afford anything, but not everything. She stresses the importance of prioritizing your wants so that you can still live a good life and improve your finances at the same time. Her podcast does a good job of bringing on guests who have reached various stages of Financial Independence. She has a down to earth approach to finances and has a good voice and personality for podcasting. I also love how she summarizes each interview and gives actionable follow-up steps for listeners to take.

Journey To Launch– This is my podcast so I have to throw in it the ring. I talk about all things personal finance and give you inspiring interviews and information to reach Financial Independence. I also share my own personal story to reach my financial goals. Check out the podcast on Apple Podcasts or on your Android device.

Improve Your Life:

Tim Ferris – Tim Ferris’ (from the 4 Hour Work Week) podcast is based more on overall personal development. He takes the best performers in their respective fields and interviews them to get an insight of how they came to be successful. I love the wide variety of guests he has on his show. His guests have ranged from Jamie Fox to Arnold Schwarzenegger. I also love the fact that Tim acts as a human guinea pig and experiments with almost anything in order to see how he can improve his own life. His podcast gives practical advice for people looking to improve their day to day life and find their meaning.

James Altutcher  – I forgot how I stumbled upon James’ show but I must say he has got to be one of the most down to earth, matter-of-fact, likable podcast hosts I have listened to. He has a sense of quirkiness about him that makes him so normal and relatable. His podcasts and brand is all about “Choosing Yourself” and finding a way to quit your 9-5 so that you can pursue your own dreams. Need I say more?

The Voluntary Life – The Voluntary Life hosted by Jake is all about how to live an overall good life. Jake talks about how to craft the life you want, without having to work for someone else. His podcasts are centered around breaking free from the societal conditions of being a good employee to living and creating a life you love. He also has a great disposition and I just love his English accent. Everything he says just sounds a bit smarter.

Achieve Your Goals w/ Hal Elrod – Hal wrote the book the Miracle Morning and his podcasts center on how to set and achieve your goals whatever they may be. If you are looking for ways to motivate yourself and get tons of advice from others who are crushing their goals, this podcast is for you.

Myleik – Myleik is my “friend in my head”.  You will literally feel like you are listening to a close girlfriend who tells you what you need to hear and not what you want to hear. Myeik is also the force behind the successful business Curlbox. She gives real-world advice ranging from relationships to how to be a boss.

The Life Coach School – This podcast by Brooke Castillo, a Life Coach, teaches you how to improve your overall life. She gives you advice, tools and helps you develop skills you can use on a daily basis. From dealing with difficult relationships to breaking bad habits, her show basically covers any area in your life that needs improvement.

Improve Your Business:

Learning With Leslie – I just started listening to Learning w/ Leslie a few weeks ago and let me tell you, I can’t believe it took me so long to find him. Leslie’s podcast is all about how to become a successful blogger. Leslie has so much great and FREE information on his podcast. His energy is infectious and instantly puts me in a good mood. Listening to his podcasts is similar to how I feel when I walk into a public library, I can’t believe the wealth and quality of information at my fingertips (eardrums)  for FREE!

Improve Your Parenting:

Respectful Parenting – As a fairly new mom, still figuring out what parenting is all about, Janet Lansbury’s Respectful Parenting podcast is very helpful in navigating the rocky adventure that is parenthood. She gives advice on how to deal with one of the most challenging parts of my life, raising my kids. I just adore her loving and peaceful approach to parenting and as she says “There are no bad kids”.

  1. Great List. I use to listen to podcasts a lot until my commute was reduced from 40 minutes to 10 minutes, so it’s been great and bad. I listen to Afford Anything and Learning with Leslie. I will have to give a few of the others a try though.

    1. Wow a 10 minute commute, I’m jealous. But yes, I don’t think I would have the time to listen to all these podcasts if it were not for my commute. Let me know if you listen to any of the others and your thoughts.
